RAF veteran awarded MBE for fundraising completes latest challenge for charity.

A Felixstowe psychotherapist and RAF veteran, who was awarded an MBE for his fundraising efforts and work with those impacted by mental health, has completed his latest charity challenge – stepping into the boxing ring.

George Downey, 44, was awarded an MBE in 2024 for services to mental health.

It followed a two-decade career in the RAF, where he supported service personnel at the RAF School of Leadership, introducing an impactful wellbeing-first approach which marked a step-change at the time.

For his most recent challenge he took part in an Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) event at Ipswich Trinity Park Events Centre recently – this time raising £1,400 for MIND and the Mental Health Foundation.

George has been personally impacted by mental health throughout his life, having lost several family members to suicide: his Grandad, 40, Uncle, 46, Dad, 46, and most recently his brother Pat, 25, who lost his life to suicide in 2020.
