‘I was living in a tent in Coventry – one Google search changed my life’

Need to know: Binley man’s remarkable journey from addiction and homelessness to hope

A Binley man has shared his inspiring story of overcoming addiction and homelessness after finding help through charity Emmaus. Billy was sleeping rough in a tent during a bitterly cold winter after a relationship breakdown led to drug addiction and losing contact with his young son for over a year. “I couldn’t see a way out. Then one day I thought, enough is enough. My little boy needed me more than anything,” he said. Billy’s grandmother found Emmaus online, which proved life-changing. He has now been clean for more than ten months and helps run two charity shops. Earlier this year, he took part in an Ultra White Collar Boxing event to raise money for Emmaus Coventry and Warwickshire and a mental health charity.
