An Aberdeen grandfather has stepped into the boxing ring to raise more than £1,200 for the local charity that helped save his grandson’s life. Alan Morrison took part in an Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) event at the Beach Ballroom to support The Archie Foundation.

The 70-year-old retired musician, who was signed to CBS Records in the 1970s with his band Dekka Danse, took on the challenge to support the charity’s Aberdeen Neonatal Unit. The decision to step into the ring as a septuagenarian was driven by a promise to give back to the medical team who cared for his grandson, who was born in 2016 weighing just one pound. Despite his age, Alan refused to let anything hold him back. He recalled: “I told myself that when I turned 70, I wanted to do something for the charity that saved my grandson’s life. When he was born weighing just a pound, the Archie Foundation team was absolutely amazing. They were so professional and took his care completely in their stride.”
